Expert Guidance, Shaped Around You

About Dr. Devore

Thank you for your curiosity. Since 2007, I have helped people from all walks of life build more fulfilling, meaningful lives. My approach is shaped by a commitment to bridge rigorous science with genuine human connection.

I began my doctoral training in clinical psychology at Loma Linda University with a focus on neuroscience and neuropsychology. My dissertation research explored how emotion shapes memory, a process that sits at the heart of lasting psychological change. This background continues to inform how I work today: you cannot simply “think” your way out of deeply rooted patterns, because those patterns are often embedded in the nervous system itself. Real change requires working with the brain, not against it.

My early training took place in diverse settings, including a Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a rehabilitation hospital for brain and spinal injuries, and a California state hospital for the criminally insane. I later completed my postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente, where I gained experience in eating disorders, substance use treatment, psychological assessment, and adult outpatient care. These environments taught me how to hold space for intense suffering and psychological complexity. Whatever you bring to session, you won't be too much. I’m here to understand.

Together,

we create a space

to feel safe enough to be honest,

brave enough to grow,

and supported enough to change.

Practical Perspectives.

Before becoming a psychologist, I worked in a wide range of roles - from food service and pizza delivery to corporate quality assurance and sales. Halfway through college, I dropped out because my mental health - I couldn’t focus nor handle the pressure. Fortunately, with help I found healing and my way to this profession. I understand the pressures of everyday life, the stress of making ends meet, and the challenge of finding balance in a demanding world. I bring this grounded, practical perspective into the therapy room.

In my personal life I’ve made some unconventional choices. At two different points in my life, I’ve intentionally stepped away from stability to travel, read, and write for a year with only a backpack. These experiences taught me how different cultures live, how people find meaning in both poverty and abundance, and how adaptable the human nervous system and spirit truly are. These sabbaticals have shaped how I understand resilience, perspective, and change.

Challenge - the crucible of change.

I chose this profession not only because I wanted to help others, but because I know what it means to need help. As a child and young adult, I faced significant social adversity and spent much of my teens and twenties struggling with loneliness, anxiety, and depression. I learned early that I could not guide others to places I had not been willing to go myself. And while I may be self-disclosing here, rest-assured that in the therapy room your needs and story are the priority.

“There's meaning

to be made, and you

don't have to do it alone.”

Through my own therapy, I learned how to stop running from my past and instead integrate what it had to teach me. That journey transformed my struggles into an asset you will feel in our work together: depth, steadiness, and compassion. When we work together, I am offering you a roadmap - one I learned from others and have also walked myself. I remain committed to my own personal and relational growth so that I can bring my clearest, most regulated self into each session.

I believe resilience is built through a lived, multifaceted life, and that responsibility is ultimately the source of meaning. Outside of my clinical work, I prioritize my relationship with my wife and our shared love of friendship, family, animals, nature, fitness, and travel. I also find balance through creative practices like drumming, writing, and reading.

Reclaim your story.

Every day, I strive to model what I teach in this work. I consider it a privilege to witness the ways people grow, heal, and reclaim their lives. I appreciate you taking the time to read about me, because choosing a therapist is an important decision. A good therapeutic relationship can be truly life-changing, and I welcome the opportunity to help you create something lasting and meaningful.
